The Final Quarter of 2026: What Professional Skill Do You Want to Build Before January?

October marks the beginning of the final three months of 2026.
For fitness and healthcare professionals, that's a useful checkpoint. Instead of waiting until January to decide what you'd like to accomplish next year, why not use the final quarter of this year to start building toward it?
At Pinnacle Training & Consulting Systems (PTCS), we believe professional development works best when there's a purpose behind it.
So here's the question:
What would you like to be better at by this time next year?
Start With the Professional You Want to Become
Maybe you want to become more confident working with clients who have complicated movement challenges.
Perhaps you'd like to expand your services, develop a specialty, earn another certification, or deepen your knowledge in an area that could make you more effective in your current role.
Your goal might involve:
Human movement and biomechanics
Functional assessment
Corrective exercise
Exercise programming
Post-rehabilitation
Sports performance
Injury considerations
Soft-tissue techniques
Clinical reasoning
Once you've identified the destination, you can start figuring out what knowledge and skills you'll need to get there.
Turn a Goal Into a Game Plan
"Learn more" isn't much of a professional development plan.
A more useful approach is to ask specific questions:
What do I want to learn? Why will it matter to my work? How will I learn it? And when am I going to start?
For example, if you'd like to work with a broader range of clients next year, you might identify gaps in your knowledge and choose continuing education that addresses them.
If you want to offer a new service, you can determine what education, training, or certification you'll need before adding it.
If you want to become better at solving difficult movement problems, you might decide to deepen your understanding of assessment, biomechanics, and exercise selection.
Now you have something much more useful than a New Year's resolution.
You have a plan.
You Still Have Three Months
It's easy to mentally write off the rest of the year once October arrives.
But three months is plenty of time to start a course, attend a seminar, explore a certification, study a new subject, or simply identify where you want your professional development to go next.
You don't have to accomplish the entire goal before January.
You just have to start moving toward it.
